I left a main denomination that does not allow women in the pulpit. Even though that was not the main reason I left at the time it was always a struggle for a woman who went into the working world when women were treated as secretaries (me being one) as "the lady who brings me my coffee when I scream to her to do so". I broke a few glass ceilings in my own working experience through the years and was even allowed in the 1970's to attend promotion meetings that were most only "for men only" but it was not the norm. So when I surrendered my life totally to the Lord this was always put in that unspoken file. Now I see a mainline Pastor stating there is and going to be an extreme shortage of new Pastors. Just something to ponder. Yes I guess men won't listen to a woman Pastor in some denominations but I have always heard that the population of the church is more female? Just something else to ponder. Thank you so much for sharing this! I came from the same faith tradition that Karen did. But as a male, I was a part of the problem, not one of its victims. Having grown out of that a long time ago, I love to see women step out of that belittling system and into God’s calling for them. Karen does such a beautiful job of putting flesh to a “doctrinal” issue.
It boggles my mind that people would boo someone in church in the middle of teaching a Bible study. Can they not at least be polite? But some I've known seem to believe they're doing God's work by actions like this. A family member let my wife and I know that if a woman got up to preach at our church he would walk out, and of course, we knew he would go loudly, registering his disapproval. It seemed to test his limits just to listen to a woman give the announcements or lead the church in prayer.
