Responding adequately to any and all of the ten issues in today's post could take a year, but I'm going to take a very brief swing at #5 with one of my pet peeves. The sanctimonious defense of abortion in God's name based on "the sanctity of human life" completely ignores what is often the same people's approval of the death penalty for criminals, violence against those with whom they disagree, war in defense of one's homeland, among other "approved" reasons for taking a human life. Is it too much to ask for consistency in applying a rule "in God's name"?
Evangelicalism has worked hard to create a walled in culture and academia that views other ideas as "unbiblical" or "demonic". The walls are harder to keep up in this information age we are living in. I think many of these stats are symptoms of the pressure the group has been feeling. The printing press led to one reformation and enlightenment age. I think the internet will lead to another, although it may take some generations. In light of these trends, what does evangelicalism look like 50 years from now?
