This is my translation of Luke 13:1-9, today’s Gospel reading.
Yēsous’ call to conversion
13:1 In that season, some were present declaring to him about the Galilaioi whose blood Pilatos mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Responding, he said to them, “Does it seem that these Galilaioi were sinners beyond all the Galilaioi because they have suffered these things? 3 No, I say to you: ‘If you don’t convert, all of you will be destroyed likewise.’ 4 Or, those 18 upon whom the tower in Silōam fell and killed them, does it seem that they were debtors beyond all humans who were inhabiting Yierousalēm? 5 No, I say to you: ‘If you don’t convert, all of you will be destroyed similarly.’”
Yēsous gives a comparison about a viticulturist
6 He was telling this comparison:
Someone had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came pursuing fruit in it and did not find [fruit]. 7 He said to the viticulturist: ‘Look! For three years I come pursuing fruit in this fig tree and I don’t find [fruit]. Therefore, chop it down. Why should it undo the land?’ 8 He, responding, says to him, ‘Lord, release it for this year until I dig around it and toss manure [around it], 9 and it might make fruit in the future. Otherwise, you will chop it down.’
Thank you
