We’re back from a wonderful week in Houston teaching at Houston Theological Seminary. What a great time Kris and I had! Speaking of which, one of my newsletters this week on this Substack will be about our time teaching. One quip we heard this week was everywhere you go takes an hour. You can drive for a long time in Houston and still be in Houston. (Amen?)
(Dinner at HCU’s president’s home.)
Well, what about this week? What do Christian nationalism, holiness, women in ministry, and teaching have in common? (This Substack, this week.)
Let’s get the week kicked off by sketching how in the world this Christian Nationalism movement formed. Drew Strait digs into some very interesting elements of what converged into what is now shaping far more people than many of us want to know and admit.
The word “holiness” is much loved by some segments of the church today while others have the kind of reaction that Aimee Byrd discussed in her Substack about language she has had to leave behind (she didn’t talk about holiness and perhaps could have). For some it captures the essence of the Christian life; for others… well, it doesn’t. I take a look at the Three Faces of Holiness.
A very clever and passion-shaped about the price women pay in the church when it comes to the using of gifts by women. You just have to wait for more, but this one has some kick to it.
On Thursday I will have some personal reflections on the wonderful DMin class I was teaching this week in Houston. Join us right here at Substack.
