Reading the Bible as Stories

Robert Alter once said we need to learn to enjoy the Bible’s stories in order to hear what these stories tell us about “God, man, and the perilously momentous realm of history.” So Mark Reasoner begins a chapter in his book Five Models of Scripture.

Alter is right. We can milk the texts dry if not careful to let them be what they are.
