This Last Week on Tov Unleashed
This last week at Tov Unleashed:
On Monday we took a long look at the problem of pastors or preachers plagiarizing sermons and teaching. Our approach was to respond to a recent article in a newspaper that disappointed with its cavalier attitude toward the material of others.
Tuesday: I double-dipped with two posts — one on what it takes to call someone a prophet or something a prophecy. And then we posted the news that Beth Moore has parted ways with LifeWay and with the Southern Baptist Convention. The conservative resurgence created too much patriarchal culture and it continues to bedevil the convention. I hope the SBC learns and grows from this. Beth Moore is a priceless treasure of Bible teaching. Bob Smietana wrote a great piece, and I was so pleased to see Beth Allison Barr quoted.
Wednesday: Bigger Jails and more cops was the focus of another chapter of Aaron Griffith’s excellent new study on God’s law and order movement and how pervasive it has been among evangelicals.
Thursday is our for-all-readers day and we took another look at the problem of God and violence in the Old Testament. The simple idea that the Old is harsh and the New is not doesn’t work. Brent Strawn proposes we take a look at the big picture: the bookends of peace.
Friday is lecture day: we are looking at the Jesus Creed in its historical context, and we looked at Jewish texts about loving God and loving others.
