This Week
Yesterday, while taking in some of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island, I wondered if a set of highlights were from a course in Scotland! The brisk winds were blowing, the golf ball was rolling, and golfers were putting the ball up onto the green from yards away from the green. Just like the courses designed by Ol’ Tom Morris.
Monday: Black skin, the Slave Bible, and the gospel—a new book.
Tuesday: so “let’s begin some begatting.”
Wednesday: “The colonies,” he said, “after all had state churches.” Throckmorton’s second myth.
Thursday: he tells redemption stories, and we look at two of them.

Thursday: Redemption Stories
Your influence through Substack has become a central part of God with me. In odd ways. Substack sent a link to a story that was a response to a Gospel Coalition post about women in the church. Or rather why women are leaving the church. I was reading the comments and this one woman posted a sentence I have not read before."Women don't like to be abused." It was simple. Direct. 6 words. Reminded me of 6 word stories. So I wandered through her substack posts. And ended up talking about you, to her. About Adrienne and your book Traumatized Church. With a link to a book promotion interview. She says she doesn't think (she didn't say believe) she will ever go to church again. So I mentioned Carmen Joy Imes Becoming God's Family. I only know about Carmen Joy Imes because of your post on something, I commented. And an oddball like caused me to find her post about Holy Spirit landing on women at Pentecost. Fantastic post!
Your agency to get into the abuse conversation has a ripple effect. I think the "minor" impacts could be easily over looked by you because you will never know about them. I am reading Imes Becoming God's Family. In an attempt to understand "why church". I did go to church yesterday. An Adventist service having a focus on "Religious Liberty" morning. In that sermon the speaker said to "leave some of your topics at home". It made me quietly laugh. Oooooooh, so you don't know how to do church either. The only way is to leave some topics at home.
Imes book is suggesting something quite the opposite. (chat 3) That it could be the RESPONSIBILITY of the living to get justice and redeem the harm for abuse of earlier ancestors. lol . . . well THAT won't create silence, fake harmony!
Looking forward to reading these
