Because Kris and I went to the Cleveland Guardian game vs. the Yankees on Saturday, and because that’s when I get the Substack posts set up, I’m behind and not entirely sure what will be coming our way this week.
First, we begin the week with the recent book of a former student of ours at Northern Seminary, pastor Derwin Gray. His book is about race and what we can do to heal the racial divide.
Second, the Samaritan parable with Emerson Powery, but this time looking at two considerably different readings — not Augustine, not Howard Thurman, but a liberationist community in Nicaragua and a formerly enslaved woman’s account.
The next two posts for the week will include one on the reformed resurgence, and I will take a new look at what spiritual abuse is by looking at a new booklet by Amy White, called Towards a Theological Definition of Spiritual Abuse, and she keeps her eye on Ezekiel 34’s very significant chapter about pastoral power and abuse.
We switched to watch the Guardians game after the disappointing end to the 18-inning Mariners game. Seeing the Yankees lose was a bright spot. Keep it up Cleveland.
Go Cleveland😊
