This Week's Substack
What provides the energy for this Substack is reading books you readers may find interesting and, not to be denied, may not have the time to read yourself. Of course, I like it when you are reading the book as I am reading it … usually a chapter at a time.
But this week begins with a different post: I want to begin answering questions folks have asked about The Second Testament. Monday’s post will be my response to those who have asked why an individual would translate the entire New Testament. Most, it is assumed, are translated by committees. So, I will offer my response.
Humor: when to, and when not to — for those speaking publicly about difficult, challenging, serious topics. The use of humor is not discussed or analyzed enough and a new book on this theme is providing for me lots to think about.
Wednesday: what happened to the vision of the “kingdom” we read about (1) in the Psalms and (2) then as it was expanded by the prophets when it (3) hit apocalyptic thinking? Apocalyptic provides a new basis of knowledge as well as a fresh angles on what’s going on in the world. Kingdom was shifted, and was ready for Jesus because of that apocalyptic turn.
Thursday: join us. I’ve got a few things I’m considering.
