From my The Second Testament: A New Translation, forthcoming.
Luke 20:27-40
Yēsous and Elites
27 Some of the Elites [=Sadducees], approaching – the ones contradicting [, saying] there is no resurrection – asked him, 28 saying, “Teacher, Mōüses [Moses] wrote to us that If a brother of someone dies having a woman and this man is childless, that his brother receives the woman and raises up seed for his brother. 29 Therefore, there were seven brothers. The First received a woman and died childless. 30 The Second 31 and the Third received her, likewise also the Seven did not leave [her] with children and died. 32 Finally, the woman also died. 33 Therefore, the woman, in the Resurrection, is a woman for which one of them? (For the Seven had her as a woman.)”
34 Yēsous said to them, “This Era’s descendants marry and are being married, 35 and the ones deserving to attain that Era and the Resurrection from among the dead ones neither marry nor are being married. 36 For they are no longer able to die, for they are equal-to-envoys and God’s descendants, being the Resurrection’s descendants. 37 That the dead ones are raised, Mōüses divulged at the bush, as he says Lord God of Abra’am and God of Yisa’ak and God of Yakōb. 39 He isn’t God of the dead ones but of living ones, for to Him all are living.”
39 Responding, some of the Code scholars, said, “Teacher, you spoke beautifully.” 40 For they were no longer daring to ask him anything.
This is jarring, in a good way!
Has there been any news yet about when your translation will be published and available? Keen to read it in full (and have been waiting ever so patiently)…. :)
