Tour Stop #1
Our Northern Seminary Doctor of Ministry cohort is on tour in Israel. We got through all our Covid protocols, including a PCR test before and after arrival.
Here’s how our first day went: early breakfast and a brief trip from our hotel to Caesarea Maritima, one of my favorites on our tour. It’s a beautiful location “on the Med,” and here Peter gospeled Cornelius (Acts 10-11) and Paul spent time under guard following tension over his, well, consistency with what was expected as much by his fellow believers in Jerusalem as well as by the authorities. So, down to Caesarea he went to be put on trial, which was dropped when he appealed to Caesar (Acts 21-28). Both our president, Bill Shiell, and I spoke there.
Each day begins with some “tov” coffee:
Some of our DMin students make presentations, and here Michael Stambaugh, at Megiddo, taught us about Elijah’s journey as a prophet, with everyone taking a long look at Mount Carmel (where Elijah’s famous miracle occurred) in the distance.
Sepphoris, just north of Nazareth and where Jesus probably plied his trade as an artisan, is a wonderful archaeological site. Here Josh Bundy is teaching us about the “coins and conflicts” in the theater in Sepphoris.
We had a wonderful day.
