Transfiguration Sunday
O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Matthew 17:1-8, from The Second Testament
Yēsous glows
17:1 After six days, Yēsous takes Petros and Yakōbos and Yōannēs, his brother, and he guides them up on a high mountain by themselves, 2 and he was metamorphosed before them, and his face shone like the sun, his robes became white as light. 3 Look! Mōüsēs [Moses] and Ēlias [Elijah] appeared to them – conversing with him. 4 Responding, Petros said to Yēsous, “Lord, It’s beautiful for us to be here. If you want, I will make here three tents, one for you, one for Mōüsēs, one for Ēlias.” 5 While he was speaking … Look! A cloud full of light enveloped them, and Look! A voice out of the cloud saying,
“This is my royal Son, the one loved, in him I was delighted. Listen to him!”
6 Hearing, the apprentices fell on their faces and they were extremely scared. 7 Yēsous approached and, touching them, said, “Be raised! Don’t dread!” 8 Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Yēsous alone.
