Thank you for writing what is true.

I doubt it. Who knows what may emerge as things “get real”, but what I’m seeing is not a growing center but a greater polarization, and I sense the reason is that if one is, for instance center-right, what captures his attention is the radical left and a visceral fear rises within him: “What would happen if those radicals got the power?!” and he is thus pushed further right finding it extremely difficult to stay in the center when there’s so much at stake. Same thing for those who are center-left beholding the madness on the far right. I hope this trend collapses and sanity wins, but I’m not optimistic. 🙏🏻

If you were not in DC on Jan. 6, then all you know is what the media has told you. To conflate Jan. 6 as an insurrection and then as representative of people who believe in MAGA is an injustice and not helpful to a meaningful discussion. To conflate someone who is a Christian and desires the best for his nation as a "white" movement, is also an injustice and not helpful.

These authors see only part of the picture. Sure, it would be great for the people listed to make common cause; but how long will that last when the people on the "leftward" end of the spectrum denigrate the centrists and what those centrists value? In terms of a coming civil war (may God preserve us from it!) Rod Dreher likens the polarization now to that before the Spanish Civil War. If the gulf continues to widen - if the elite institutions in our nation continue to be directed by people who despise and actually show less and less Tolerance toward those in the center, along with centrist values (including classical liberalism) and religious faith - how will we not come to the conditions that lit the match in Spain in the '30s? It wasn't simply a case of "Fascism" versus "Democracy" - it was much more nuanced than that, in terms of how things came to that pass and why people picked the "side" they did. It bears study, and unfortunately most people in this country refuse to even learn About history, let alone learn From it.

I don't agree with everything Dreher writes, but he is definitely not a mindless "MAGA" type, and he sees things a lot of people miss.
