Yēsous tested
4:1 Yēsous, full of Holy Spirit, returned from the Yordanēs and was being led in the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tested by the Accuser [diabolos]. He did not eat anything in those days … they were completed … he hungered.
3 The Accuser said to him, “If you are God’s royal Son, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 Yēsous responded to him, “It’s written that The human will live not on only bread.” 5 Leading him up, he exhibited to him all the inhabited world’s empires in a moment of time 6 and the Accuser said to him, “I will give you all this authority and their splendor, because it has been given over to me and I give it to whomever I want. 7 You, therefore, if you bow down before me, all will be yours.” 8 Yēsous, responding, said to him, “It’s written: You will bow down to the Lord God and you will venerate only him.”
9 He led him to Yierousalēm and stood on the temple’s turret and said to him, “If you are God’s royal Son, toss yourself down from here 10 for It’s written: He will order his envoys about you to guard you and that they will lift you in their hands, so you will not stub your foot on a stone.” 12 Responding, Yēsous said to him that “It has been said, You will not test out the Lord your God.”
13 Completing every test, the Accuser removed from him until a season.
14 Yēsous returned in the Spirit’s power to the Galilaia. Fame exited about him throughout the whole region. 15 He was teaching in their assembly halls, being splendored by all.
