You could be excused for thinking that much of English pronunciation was invented by a trickster god, one with a particularly cruel streak. After all, how else could we have come to a place where
I used a story Luke Powery told about Mary Bethune Cookman and John 3:16. I used that story at the end of a sermon about John 3:16. The college named after her is a United Methodist school and each UMC supports it through our Black College Fund. Well, unless they vote not to pay that line item
When my children were growing up, we read a biography of Mary McLeod Bethune. Her accomplishments are impressive. Her faith was real. She did experience rejection within Christian circles and within the church in part due to her race and gender. Out of these she created opportunities for black children. There are many biographies of her much worth the read. Thanks for bringing our attention to her legacy. On another note, it's been a full work week on my end, and couching it for March Madness is a blessing at this household. Oh, the upsets!
Always enjoy your meanderings.
