I join you especially in that final line, the prayer: "We pray for the end of all war and the establishment of deep justice and an enduring peace." Amen.

I wonder if all the (mostly) young men and women who have fought in America's wars from the American revolution through Iraq and Afghanistan would ask us to pray for just one thing, what would it be? My conclusion is that they would pray for us to work as hard as we can to make sure that no other young man or woman has to fight and die amid the horrors and terrors of war as they did, and that no family should ever again face the agony of losing a child, a husband or wife, or a brother or a sister to the bloodthirsty gods of war. Let's all honor this unspoken prayer by praying and working for peace, and let us offer it in the spirit of the One who said, "Blessed are the Peacemakers... "
