So many good things here! But I love this most: “The people Matthews hailed for their antisexism had a common trait: faithfulness. They persevered when they were rejected and discouraged.” Thank you for continuing to show up, Kelly. You are a bright light for all of us. Can’t wait to hear more about your Bible study!

This quote resonated with me so much: “I once thought it was a compliment to be categorized as a “HCV” (high-capacity volunteer), but eventually I realized that it was essentially a list of women being systematically burnt out as unpaid staff.” I’ve known so many women who were stuck in the HCV trap, doing more work than some of the paid staff and more shepherding than the acknowledged shepherds. By God’s grace, may more and more people see the light and bring this system to an end.

Amen. Your articles have been giving me strength to continue to persevere in my own kingdom work — currently, getting my MDiv. Thank you for your imagination, creativity, courage, and faithfulness.

Faithfulness! This article was a veritable treasure trove of evidence for women to persevere in their theological journey. I was affirmed and saddened that this is even still a thing. Thank you for this, I didn’t realize how much I needed it.

Heather, Thank you for sharing this. I remember the first time I came across Junia from this perspective. It was Beth Allison Barrs book on Biblical Womanhood. I was suddenly thrust into a whole new way of viewing Biblical Womanhood. I am in my early 60’s and I had spent my adult married life living under this teaching of how Men are the head. It wasn’t my husband, it was what I had learned as a newly married young woman from sweet faithful women mentors. I am so thankful for women such as you who are breaking open the truth of what scripture actually says.
