Things We Like

On our morning walks or in the home Kris or I at times see something or hear something and one of us says “I like that.”
We like:
The smell of bacon in the kitchen on a morning.
The glistening blades of our “morning light” grasses.
Morning and evening “chipping” of the Northern Cardinal getting ready to feast on our feeder.
Amish Apple Butter.
The “hum” of a hummingbird nervously wondering if the feeder is safe. (Yes it is.)
The smell of fresh mown grass.
The evening light on a reading chair outfitted with the right book.
The silence of high school students heading to school in the AM.
The buzz of high school students heading home in the PM.
The noise of a high school football game in the neighborhood.
What do you like?
Boys and girls playing soccer and baseball and softball on local fields.
The smell of an old library, like the library at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary.
The busyness of a local coffee shop in the early morning.
A placid lake in the morning sun.
The occasional loon “looning” on that lake.
Migrating birds.
Migrating waterfowl.
Migrating Sand Hill Cranes.
Diving ducks like Buffleheads.
The constant motion of migrating warblers on their relentless chase of something to nibble on. (Sit still so I can find your identifying marks, please.)
The bursting forth of spring flowers and grasses. They wait on one another so they don’t all show off their beauty at the same time.
The unpredictability of plants phasing out and new ones showing because of bird droppings.
On™ sneakers.
Fall leaves.

Substack posts like this that make me smile and think like a sunflower - thoughts that turn toward the light.
Smart phone keypads that are smart enough too recognize that it’s my thumb typing.
Music through my earbuds.
Smart comedy that makes me laugh out loud. (Even if it’s underlying message of truth is Christlike and upsets people with the truth.)
During quiet prayer in church, the spontaneous whispered prayers of people who let The Spirit have quiet prayerful conversations.
Seeing people I don’t know, or do know, when they meet someone with a heartfelt handshake, hug. Smile, and/or words that are full of kindness and happiness.
The sound of a train, in the distance or a block away.
You (yes, even you!
Ahhh thank you Scott
What do we like
The purr of our cats
The smiling face of our Samoyed
The birds singing in the morning
The crazy laughter of the neighbors children
The sound of the piano as my wife plays
The sound of my guitar as I plug away at the music I know
