Thank you for stepping in and addressing this word that has been ironically used to strong-arm women. When I began to research what scholars had been saying about authenteo in 1 Timothy 2:12 years ago, I read many scholars describing the word as strong arming and overpowering another. I expressed this to David Platt when he was President of the IMB and I was asked to speak on women's roles in the IMB in front of him and several of the VPs. I pointed out that authenteo needs proper research, and it's interpretation is key. It's exhausting to have to point those who should be doing proper exegesis, to the fact that this word has been weaponized against women. It was the very thing this word was asking no one to do to each other.
Such good thoughts and words. Unfortunately though it doesn't change what many churches still include in their reasonings for why women cannot be pastors, or teachers or elders. It's beyond disappointing to me that so many churches take this stand. Thanks again for offering your insights and understanding.
