Luke 6:27-38 27 But to you I say to those who are hearing: Love your enemies! Do beautifully to the ones hating you! 28 Bless the ones cursing you! Pray for the ones mistreating you! 29 To the one who beats you on the cheek – present the other, and from the one who takes your robe don’t prohibit your shirt!
Hi Scott. I’m sitting here meditating on this passage and notice a couple of things. First, no emotion is directly associated with love, i.e. love is action; action that is actuated by and results in the, good, the true, and the beautiful - the character of Jesus. Second, I hear Paul saying, “Exactly, this is how faith works by love.”, and James says, “Yup, exactly.”
WOW! WONDERFUL! I love that Jesus in your translation was very specific in describing what Luke 10:26-29 should look like. And I love that Jesus links it back to "the Law" from Mount Sinai. It's all of one piece if we could only see it. Thank you for taking us back to the end of Matt 5 on onward for the specifics.
What version is this? I resonate with it.
Thank you. It's from my forthcoming translation of the New Testament, which will be called The Second Testament (IVP, 2023).
Scot I like your choice of 'sympathetic' where other translations have 'merciful'.
Thank you for such important truth shared in the way it was stated.
