I’m offering a Tov Book Club to subscribers to this Substack. A friend of mine suggested a Book Club for this Substack community, and he suggested 4 books per year. The Tov Book Club will announce a book in advance, will read one chapter per week, and we will develop questions to create more conversation. I will summarize the chp with pertinent quotations for the conversation. (You don’t have to buy the book or read the book to participate but it will help.)
Good morning- I will read anything you all suggest , as it will broaden my base... Of course N.T Wright would be a suggestion from me and a female voice too should be on the list . It would be good for me and maybe others to hear an African voice, or Latin American voice- I am Canadian so if i find a Canadian voice , I may suggest that- this is a great idea-ty for offering-Oh, will the books be available on kindle/kobe???? or are people buying hard/soft cover? sometimes page numbers are tricky to follow when we all use different means of reading...
I would love to do Life Together by Deitrich Bonhoeffer. I read that one and The Cost of Discipleship and either would be great for book club, but Life Together really should be studied with people. Also, I would like it if we could do your books, e.g. King Jesus Gospel or The Jesus Creed. What a gift it would be to study these with you!
I do like book clubs, so I'm certainly in. But I have one question: I may not understand the sense of TOV fully, so my question may rest on a false assumption. But for me TOV is the fulfillment of the Ten Words from Mount Sinai that all of our actions and contacts reflect God's insistence that we love others (really LOVE others) as we love ourselves. But the first book suggested has to do with a pastor's library. I was a pastor's wife for nearly two decades and I do know that world. But it seems that the books on a pastor's shelf are only distantly related to the essence of TOV. Of course TOV and pastoral ministry may overlap from time to time, but they are not about the same thing.
I am enjoying this book at your recommendation, and would welcome the chance to discuss it on line.

Bonhoeffer would be good and yes- Scot’s books would be so fun to read with him!
Yes! I am excited about this.
This is Lindsey Calverley by the way... I changed my username for my blog, didn't realize it affected my username on other writers' blogs!
It’s fiction, but “Gilead” by Marilyn Robinson.
Look forward to the book club offerings. Perhaps we could tackle Gorman's Reading Revelation Responsibly at some point.
I second this one. I’m trying to read more Gorman.
FYI This book is on Scribd.
I’m in. I imagine anything you would suggest will be Tov 😊
